Samuthirakani Compares Jallikattu Protest By Students With Anti-Hindi Agitation

The ongoing protests by students is bigger than the anti-Hindi agitations of 1960s, said director Samuthirakani who joined protesters at Alanganallur, on Thursday.

When Samuthurakani arrived at the venue of protest in Alanganallur, he was welcomed with a huge round of applause and loud cheers. Addressing the protesters, he said, “When I used to read about anti-Hindi agitations of the 1960s, I always wondered if Tamil Nadu would ever witness such a students’ movement again. But, the youth of this state have proved me wrong and given me the confidence that they will fight for several issues with the same enthusiasm and stand up for what they believe in.

He added, “We must ensure that all other problems of farmers are also addressed and create an environment in which no farmer is pushed to the edge.” He also lauded the participation from young girls and women, who were seen in as many numbers as the men at the protests.
