“I Feel Its My Duty To Promote New Talent”

In a career spanning over 14 years, Jiiva has never shied away from experimenting even in the initial days of his career. His films Raam and Kattradhu Tamizh set benchmarks for the industry in the 2000s.

Interestingly, most of these films have been made by the then new filmmakers. The actor who has also emerged successful in commercial cinema, says that he has been following in his father’s footsteps. “My dad till date has introduced 40 to 45 directors. Most of them went on to deliver huge hits. With the dearth of quality writers in the industry today, I feel it’s my responsibility to promote writers and directors who have the potential to deliver good movies to the audience. That is how movies like Engeyum Eppodhum, Kavalai Vendaam and now SBKT with Ike Radha happened,” says the actor.

He also adds that Arya’s Kadamban will be another quality movie from their production house. Has he consciously decided not to work with established directors? The actor says, “There should always be a balance in the work we do. I would also like to see myself in senior directors’ films if the content is good.”

Jiiva who is currently shooting for KEE with Nikki Galrani says, “We have 20 more days of shoot left and will start shooting for the remaining portions next month. That also helps artistes like me maintain a healthy gap between movies so that there is no overdose or a long gap.

Talking about SBKT, Jiiva says, “The movie has shaped up really well and I am glad that the posters have managed to raise the expectation for the film. The team was full of energy and my combination with Soori and Sridivya will be talked about.” When asked about the release date he says, “Our target audience are kids. Hence we are planning to release the film in the summer holidays.
